mickey mouse club

Had this taped on our Tivo, and was afraid it was lost forever. Love this kid!!! I'll show this to anyone who says they don't understand why anyone would want to teach music their whole life!

The Amazing Race

Spring break summary: Got rest on Monday. Flew to Little Rock and saw Eric on Tuesday. Jordan picked me in LR that afternoon and I stayed at Harding 'til Friday afternoon. People at Harding are nice, Jordan is doing great, weather was gorgeous, etc. Glad to be back, I guess, school is bound to be about to get really busy.

Yesterday as I was going through security in Little Rock, I got a phone call from my friend Jerry Childers. A group from the CCC had two last-minute drop-outs for a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser. I agreed to fill one of the empty spots.
So, this morning Jerry and Jessica Broeburg meet Brandon and me at our apartment at 9:00. We drove to a Methodist church in Flower Mound. We got t-shirts, goodie bags, and a few minutes instruction, and at 10:30 the epic scavenger hunt began. We played this game against the other groups to see who could leave first, and our group placed second. They seperated the groups' departures by 5 minutes.
Our first clue lead us to Joe's Crab Shack in Lewisville. At this point our pace was easy and we were enjoying ourselves, parking at each spot and going in as a group to get the clue. From Joe's we went to Sneaky Pete's boat store in Lake Dallas. This is where the pace picked up. The girl behind the desk knew nothing about the scavenger hunt and took 2 or 3 minutes to find our clues, and by this time the group behind us caught up and blocked in Brandon's truck. The good news, we were obviously the first group to get there, meaning we passed the first group, bad news, the group behind had caught up. They got a head start on the Interstate and beat us to the Apple bee's parking lot. The rest of the day we were neck and neck. We'd beat them somewhere but it'd take the clerk too long to get us the clue and they'd catch up. They'd get somewhere a little before us and traffic lights would slow us down. At one point we were three or four cars behind them at a red light and they intentionally waited to go until the light turned yellow, ignoring the honking and other people to make us stop at the red light.
The scavenger hunt took us from Joe's Crab Shack to Sneaky Pete's Boat store, to a water store in the shopping center behind Applebee's, to Bath Junkie, to the Wine Safari, to Frosty's, and finally to a Mexican restaurant in Argyle called Papi's, where the finish line and lunch were waiting for us. We finished in exactly an hour, a close second place to the group that turned out to be a bunch of really nice lawyers that do pro-bono work for Habitat.
There were several corporate sponsors who gave habitat a flat rate for every group of 4-5 that participated, as well as placed that dontated prizes for the group. For coming in second place, everyone in our group got certificates for a free dinner at this steak house near Fort Worth, full meal: salad, steak, baked potato, and dessert. I love charity!!

'good' MORNING

This week is Harding's spring break, and next week is mine. Jordan is home, and it was a great deal of fun to see her on Friday and Saturday. Last night (Saturday) we went to see "Zodiac" which we'd both been wanting to see. Overall, not bad, I give it a B.
Anyways, because it's the eve of Spring Forward, we went to the 8:20 showing. However, I wish we'd been a little more detailed in our research so as to be that the movie is 2'50'' looong! Goodness, with previews and things, it was 11:40/12:40 when the movie ended! I dropped her off at her house and still had 40 minutes to drive home. Yikes.
A thank you to those of you considerate enough to call me this morning and make sure that I changed my clock and was going to be at church to lead worship. However, I must apologize to those of you who were not among the first three or so to call, because I stopped answering the phone. I woke up in plenty of time to shower, dress, have breakfast and get to church, but I did not wake up early enough to have 5 or 6 drawn phone conversations along the way. I chose my own punctuality over the ease of mind of those who worried I might be asleep.
Also, my apologies to Brandon for locking him out of the apartment. I understood that you all had gone to Oklahoma for the weekend, didn't expect you to drive back from Oklahoma the same night. The drunks were being loud, and I'd just seen a scary movie, got in around 1:30/2:30, dead tired, just wanting to get to bed, nobody was home, so for all of those reasons I turned both deadbolts last night.
Fair warning to all of you who may one day be in Brandon's situation: I cannot be awaken at 4:30 in the morning if my body was promised it could sleep 'til 7. I've slept through earthquakes, tropical storm - borderline hurricanes, house floods, nearby houses catching on fire in the middle of the night, cystic fibrosis attacks of my roommate, and for all I know, things have happened during the nights when there's nobody else there to inform me in the morning what I've missed.
The week before spring break is generally a light week with a side of mid-term. Music classes know better and have their stuff the week before the final week, and then let up the week before break. Should be nice.

March Madness

Congratulations to the UNT Mens Basketball team. By beating Arkansas State tonight in the Sunbelt Conference Championship, they've won a bid to the NCAA tournament. This is the first time UNT has received a bid to "the dance" in 19 years. Chances are, our luck will go the way it did in 1988, and we'll lose out in the first round to somebody like North Carolina, but it's a big deal to be going.
Now, I'm not going to lie. Before tonight, I didn't even know how the team was doing or that we were up for this. I still cannot name you a single player on the team by name, or their coach.

Poor Old Man

So the other day I went to the rec center to run, as I try to run there three or four times a week. I've finished my run, I'm tired, and I walk into the locker room. As I head to my locker, I see a man, probably 60 or so, step up onto the scale and weigh himself. I don't think much of it, I just get my towel and soap, take my shower, and as I'm dressing, I see him come back in, out of breath, and guess what? he steps up on the scale and weighs himself. I don't know if he lifted weights, got on a treadmill, or walked on the track, but he couldn't have done it for more than 5 or 6 minutes. Tops.
